Kazakhstan will host the ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships for the first time, according to the Sports Development Directorate of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
One of the most prestigious annual events on the International Skating Union (ISU) calendar will be held in Astana from February 9 to 14, 2027. The competition will bring together the world’s top figure skaters from Asia, the Americas, Africa, and Oceania.
Astana’s successful bid to host the championship follows a landmark achievement by Mikhail Shaidorov, who won the gold medal in the men’s singles event at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milan–Cortina. His historic victory has given a significant boost to the development and popularity of figure skating in Kazakhstan.
ISU President Jae Youl Kim welcomed the decision:
“We are delighted to bring the ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships to Kazakhstan for the first time. This landmark event will provide figure skating fans across Central Asia with a unique opportunity to experience world-class competition and watch their favorite athletes perform live. The passion for figure skating in Kazakhstan has reached a new level, and we are confident that Astana will provide an outstanding stage for athletes, spectators, and all participants. We look forward to experiencing the unique energy, warm hospitality, and great ambition that Kazakhstan will bring to this major event.”
Olympic champion Mikhail Shaidorov also shared his excitement in an interview with the ISU press office:
“Honestly, I couldn’t be happier. This is a tremendous achievement both for me and for Kazakhstan. For many years, I dreamed of seeing an ISU championship held in my home country, and I am incredibly grateful that this dream has finally come true. Since my Olympic victory, the popularity of figure skating in Kazakhstan has grown significantly, and I hope this positive momentum will continue in the years ahead. I am working hard to prepare for the upcoming season and hope that the ISU Four Continents Championships will create unforgettable memories for fans and leave a lasting legacy.”
